It was meant to help you feel more present, trust yourself more deeply, and create a life that feels like your own. But somewhere along the way, healing became another place to perform, achieve, and prove that you were doing enough.
You were not doing it wrong. You may have simply reached the point where the work that once supported you began pulling you further away from yourself.
I learned how to leave myself early. As a child, I learned not to have emotions that felt too big. I learned to wait my turn, to be the good girl, to achieve, and to pay close attention to what the people around me needed.
I wanted to belong. Like every child, belonging meant connection, and connection meant safety. So I became extremely good at adapting.
I learned to say everything was okay even when my body felt that it was not. I learned to override my needs, soften my reactions and make myself easy to be around. I became highly aware of other people’s moods and increasingly disconnected from my own.
Fawning became a familiar nervous-system pattern for me. Staying useful, agreeable and emotionally manageable helped me feel safe, but it also taught me that connection could come at the cost of self-expression.
Burnout in 2018 became the moment I could no longer keep living at a distance from myself.
It led me into breathwork, coaching, yoga, nervous-system education, and the deeper question that now sits at the centre of my work:
How do we build a relationship with ourselves strong enough to create a life that actually feels like our own?
I grew up in Scotland, Saudi Arabia and New Zealand, and I now live in Berlin. I’m learning how to be at peace with the fact that I may never have a place that will feel 100% like home, but I will always find home within myself.
I love movement! Especially lifting heavy things, spin class and yoga (of course). As someone who used to be overweight, I am so grateful for what my body is able to do for me.
I’m a massive music fan. When I was young, I sang in choirs. In my late teens and 20’s, I was a metalhead. In my late 20’s I moved to electronic music, and in my early 30’s I started listening to mantras and healing music.
I’m an introvert, except when I’m with my people, and then I love to banter, make jokes, and have fun! My husband is my favourite person to hang out with, and it helps that he puts up with my terrible dad jokes.
Food and travel are my love language.
